Our History
Heritage Since 1890 – The Wine Legacy Begins
The Makashvili family’s winemaking tradition was born in 1890, deep in the vineyards of Georgia—a land known as the cradle of wine. From the very beginning, the family cultivated grapes with care, producing wine using ancient Georgian techniques preserved through centuries. Their cellars echoed with the rhythm of seasonal harvests, and each vintage carried the essence of their noble heritage and deep respect for the land.
Revival in the 2000s – A Noble Line Reawakens
In the early 2000s, George Makashvili, a descendant of one of Georgia’s historic noble families, reawakened the family’s legacy. Embracing organic viticulture and ancient methods, he launched Prince Makashvili—a line of authentic bio wines. These wines quickly gained international acclaim, winning several prestigious awards in Italy and marking a new chapter in Georgian winemaking excellence, led by a new generation of noble blood.
Today – Distilling Excellence at the Family
Restaurant Today, the Makashvili family brings their mastery into a new era by crafting natural and bio spirits from handpicked fruits, honey, and traditional grapes—including the iconic chacha. What sets them apart? The distillation happens live, at their own family restaurant, using a handcrafted Jacob Karl artisan German distillery. Guests can witness the process firsthand—where tradition meets innovation in an immersive, aromatic experience. Every bottle is born on-site, made with care by the family, and served with the warmth of Georgian hospitality.
A Royal Georgian Tradition, Perfected Through Generations From ancient vineyards to award-winning wines, and now to the heart of artisan distillation—Prince Makashvili is more than a name. It is a living legacy, preserved with pride, shared with passion, and tasted in every glass.
